Much like bubonic plague or leptospirosis being spread by infected wild rodents to people.Of course, there are other factors to consider, but the main idea is that a highly transmittable virus can and does have the ability to infect people faster--and this is only the transmission aspect and not yet the pathogenesis itslef.
