Neuro Dr diagnosed as Polymyositis, advised 6 prednisone 5 mg daily.Prednisolone 10mg is available. Is it OK.?

I am suffering from Muscles weakness disease. Symptoms are difficulty in climbing stairs/hilly path even with support, More pressure is felt in eyelids %26 fingers movement. The effect is more in right side, specially right leg above knee. Not in a position stand for more time. Even in plain area, after walking 50m, need rest.
Answer:
If you take them all at the same time then you should be fine taking 3 of the 10mg as the total amount will be the same.
Check with your pharmacist before making a sound and informed decision.
Your doctor would be OK, but your body not.
check if the tablet is scored in the middle. if it is then its ok to use 1/2. If not look for 5mg.
You definitely need to take 5mg if that is what your doctor ordered. If you've never taken Prednisone before, you don't know how you will react to it. Prednisone is not a medication to alter dosing instructions. So, please take the 5mg as was suggested to you.
Prednisone is a steroid used in the treatment in many autoimmune diseases. With a host of side effects moon face, weight gain from fluid and constant cravings. If you have been prescribed 6 prednisone tablets at 5 mg, I'm guessing you mean 30 mg daily, you can take 3 tablets at 10 mg, and get the same results. There is only one difference in the tablet formation, which is 5 mg tablets contain mineral oil in the make of the tablet and 10 mg tablets do not. As for the effectiveness it is the same. Remember to take this medication at the same time daily, morning is the best, since it makes you hyper and unable to sleep, and also DO Not miss a dose. Prednisone affects the Adrenal Gland and you can go into adrenal shock if you stop taking it suddenly or without being weened off. (There is only one exception, and you can not be on prednisone prior, taken in high dosage for one week only and then discontinued immediately). Your prescribed amount is fairly high to my knowledge, I know of patients taking 1mg to 5 mg daily, but also I have been on high dosages of 50 mg to 60 mg daily and weened down slowly. Talk to the Pharmacist when you pick up your presciption.
New here...I was looking to help people that have Lupus, as we have recently started a new site in Oz, but came across your question. My hubby takes a large does of Prenisolone, and it is REALLY important that you only take the dose indicated by your doctor. This medication needs to be weaned down after use, so taking the 5mg is the lowest does you can take, and so it is not advisable that you start taking 10mg.Try buying one of those tablet cutters and cutting it in half.Hope that helps :-)
My first thought is that your doctor prescribed your Prednisone 5mg this way so the dose could be tapered down. For example, I have seen prescriptions written where the patient takes 6 prednisone 5mg on day 1, then tapers down by 1 tablet a day until the med is finished. When you pick up your medication, talk to the pharmacist. Make sure you understand the directions and any possible side effects.
