NCLEX-RN Question? Can you answer this question if knowing its your responsibility to get it correct?

The nurse notes that the infusion bag of a client receiving TPN as become empty. The nurse calls the pharmacy, but the next bag will not be delivered for another 30 minutes. The nurse should plan to hang which of the following solutions until the TPN arrives?
1) 5% dextrose in water
2) 10 % dextrose in water
3) 50% dextrose in water
4) 5% lactated Rinbger's
5) Stop the infusion until the TPN arrives
Okay nursing students this is a typical question ask on your state boards. Whats the answer and why?If you would like my wife who has a Masters in Nursing to continue to make these kinds of posts please answer yes or no.
Answer:
no guyes, answer is 2, the 10 % dextrose in water. it's given to prevent hypoglycemia.
um, i wanna say 5 but then i don't think that would be a very good question. so, i'll go with the 5% D in water. it is a standard isotonic solution. would keep the patient going for a little while.
and yes!
I would say, stop the infusion, until the TPN arrives. Because, there was nothing in the question about an order for any other supplemental IV.Please continue to post questions like these.
I need a lot of help with answering questions. DESPERATELY
