My wife received a shot of radioactive material at a hospital.?

She received this so she could be tested for cancer that she had for 7 years to see if her teatments were working and to see if the cancer is under control. The hosipal gave her a card showing that she is radioactive. How many days will it take for this material leave her system?
Answer:
Relax, it is a dye and already out of her system. They need this to show things they would normally not see. the blood recirculates fast..... and don't worry. we get more radiation by walking down a crowded street....... I have had two. I am a nurse. common..... relax.... takes about maybe 10 hours to be out of system..... drink water..... no big deal really!!!!!! What a nice hubby.....
It all depends what isotope and how many curies of that material she was given. I can't even guess without that information.
That depends on where it is stored in the system. The reason for the radioactive shot is that the circulatory system and lymph system can be clearly outlined and if there are any tumors, particularily in the lymph system and the excretory systems, the radioactivity will reveal it. Radioactivity has a half life and the half life of the material given to your wife is likely very short, so she won't glow in the dark for the next ten years.
Congratulations to her on staying symptom free for seven years. Here's hoping the test is completely negatve.
depends on the half life of the material - with my PET scan, it took 8 hours. No biggie; unless she is trying to cross boarder or get on airplane.J
This depends on the effective half-life. This is a figure which takes into account the physical half-life (how long it takes half the radiation to decay) and the biological half-life (how long it takes the body to get rid of half the chemical). The faster either the faster you waife gets back to normal. Most scans are done with Technicium and this decays fast and is excreted fast. In the UK, the medical profession usually suggest a time period of about one to two days from memory.
