Operation from bowel cancer i was told all went well until i thought i was to get it reversed a leak showed?

can any one tell me what a leak is i was told it can be fixed but i am worried .
Answer:
There is alot of intestinal area for surgeons to cover and they are often working with sharp blades in a confined space. I do not know what happened in your case, but any surgery is a risk. Part of the risk involves the fact that a surgeon may knick an area unintentionally and cause a leak in the bowel. That is one of the things they look for during recovery. It is also possible that the cancer created a hole in the bowel and they missed it during surgery. I'm not really sure, so would suggest that you ask your surgeon directly. The good news is, if you have been told that it can be fixed than it probably can be fixed. Things happen. My sons left lung was accidentally punctured during surgery to place a central line. The surgeon said it was the first time he's ever done that. The lung collapsed, but than reflated by itself. They watched him a couple days and than he was fine. He never had any pain from it.I'm assuming you have a colostomy and will be having this reversed? Good luck to you!
basically they remove part of your plumbing system shorten it a bit and reconnect it , as in plumbing , yours spring a small leak needs stitching up ,nothing to worry about , done every day good luck
When the cancerous piece of the bowel is removed the two end bits are sewn together, it's called an anastamosis. Occasionaly a leak occurs, it's more of a nuisance, a set back, but it has to be repaired very quickly as contents of the bowel could be leaking into the peritoneum. the area outside the bowel but inside the body. A routine operation to the surgeon, but obviously not to you! It should not stop the reversal but it will delay it by about a month.
